Map and driving instructions
On the road to the Bay of Islands
Close to Auckland
Drive, fly or helicopter
Glass Barn is 530m on the left up Springfield Road, off the No 1 State Highway between Auckland, Whangarei and the Bay of Islands, in the north of the North Island in New Zealand.
Driving from Auckland
From Auckland, take the No 1 State Highway North.
It is an easy two hour direct drive from the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
Once out of Auckland and its suburbs, you will pass through a number of small towns on the way, including Warkworth, Wellsford and Kaiwaka.
After passing by the Waipu and Marsden Point turnoffs, you will pass through pastoral farmland with quite long road straights, until the road reaches the mangrove forests of the upper Whangarei Harbour. At this point keep an eye out for the Caltex branded Oakleigh Service Station on the left.
Springfield Road turns sharply off to the left immediately after the Service Station.
Follow the road for 530m until you see no. 53 on the left.
You will see Glass Barn up on the ridge.
Driving from Whangarei
From the southern limits of Whangarei, take the State Highway South for Auckland for about 13km. Drive past the Mangapai turnoff at Oakleigh (there is a palm and cycad nursery on the left and then a rail overbridge) for a further 1km until you see Springfield Road on the right, just before the Oakleigh Service Station.
Drive 530m up Springfield Rd until you see no. 53 on the left.
You will see Glass Barn up on the ridge.
